1969 Aston Martin DB6

Even before it was released, the Aston Martin DB6 had a lot to live up to,-considering the lineage and the legacy left by its predecessor, the Aston Martin DB5. Considered to-be one of the best Aston Martinis—if not one of the best British cars—ever, the Aston-Martin DB5 is well known as one of the cars of the secret agent James Bond. This is something that-very few cars have going for them. 

How can the Aston Martin DB6 surpass this kind of achievement? In a way, the DB6-did and did not push the envelope beyond what the DB5 has done—which doesn’t make it a-less successful and beauty car. With the 1969 Aston Martin DB6, the car manufacturer has proven that-it is one of the quintessential British car manufacturers. And with this, the DB6 has become one of-the icons of the British automobile industry.

Just like the other DBs before it, the Aston Martin DB6 is named company head David-Brown. This sports car is a two-door coupe with an FR layout. The company first commissioned the renowned coachbuilder Touring of-Milan to produce the design for the new DB, but Aston Martin rejected it. It was then that the-company decided to focus on a company-made design for the new DB. 

The design, as it turned out, was not very different from the DB5, although there-have been significant changes. The end result was the Aston Martin DB6, released during 1965. This-sports car line would seize production in 1971, before the beginning of a new era for Aston-Martin.

But before this was the Aston Martin DB6. In terms of chassis and general design,-the DB6 was intentionally similar to its predecessor, except for some intrinsic changes to fix its-problem with the rear-wheel traction. The wheelbase, for instance, was around three inches higher in the DB6, while the-rear part of the car was increased to give it more passenger space.  The length of the DB6,-overall, was two inches longer than the DB5, although both cars weigh just the-same. 

Of course, not to be missed are the British carpeting and the top-quality leather upholstery, features of the Aston Martin DB that remained up until the very end of-the series. These kinds of features make the Aston Martin DB6 a trademark, glossy British car.-Still, while the Aston Martin DB6 can pretty much match up to the performance of the top cars during-its day, it still lacks the appeal and the charisma of the other major sports car during its time.-This isn’t entirely surprising, as this was one of the major criticisms against the Aston-Martin DB line in general.

But in the end, that doesn’t make the 1969 Aston Martin DB6 any less-luxurious, especially when you consider the current day standards. With its British charms, the 1969-Aston Martin DB6 remains to be an elegant ride until today—which is only a given, since there-is nothing it on the road today.
