1979 Ferrari 308 GTA Dino

The Ferrari Dino line is significant to the Italian car manufacturer because of-what it has done for their company. The Dino was actually was, in a manner of speaking, an-experiment in the mid-engine car design—a design Enzo Ferrari was willing to take a chance on, but not on the actual-Ferrari line. 

Dino, named after the son of Ferrari founder Enzo, was created to test the mid-engine car design to the market, since this design was not normally used on consumer road cars.-While this design is quite common for race cars, it wasn’t very common for road cars, since it-was perceived to be dangerous for the road. However, Enzo’s apprehensions were dispelled when-the first Dino received critical and commercial acclaim. From then on, the Ferrari Dino became a-staple for the car manufacturer.

The 1979 Ferrari 308 GTA Dino was only a natural progression for the company known-for creating too many updates on their car models. For starters, the 308 was the successor to the-equally successful Dino 246. The 246 was deemed as among the best Ferraris ever, an acclaim that it-is in itself a feat—after all, Ferrari has created a number of acclaimed models. Therefore,-the 308 had a lot to fill. 

The 308 was the first V-8 for Ferrari. A 2+2 coupe with a compression ratio of 8.8:1, its heads and V-8 block were made using aluminum alloy. The very first 308 was presented in 1975 at the Paris Motor-Show as the 346’s replacement. Like the 346, the 308 and even the 1979 Ferrari 308 GTA Dino-were among the low end Ferrari since it had the Dino label instead of the prancing stallion-logo—a sign that it was not among the mainstream Ferrari line.
