The 1959 Porsche 754 T7 is very different from most other cars that share its similarities. It is actually a prototype, but it is what eventually became of this prototype that has contributed to the fame and recognition that it has received.

There are not many automobiles that have never been taken beyond the prototype stage-that have achieved the kind of historical recognition and notoriety that has been gained by the 1959-Porsche 754 T7. For people who are not familiar with this car, it usually only takes one look-at a photograph to understand why this model, envisioned at the time that it was ended up having-such a profound effect on automobile history.

When the Porsche 356 series wrapped up, it had a lot to do with the mechanical-underpinning of the Porsche 911. The Porsche 911, originally called the 901 but then-subsequently renamed after protest from Renault, ended up being one of the most iconic and-successful sports car line-ups of all time.

It is in a look at the 1959 Porsche 754 T7 where somebody first sees so many of the-styling cues that eventually became so recognizable with the 911. When you see the two tubular-looking extensions that go forward on the hood to the headlights, you are immediately reminded of-the 911 of the sixties and seventies. Even taking a look at the back of the car with the twin-tailpipes positioned the way that they are and the shape of the back bumper, it immediately reminds-you of a 911.

The one area where this automobile was significantly different than its eventual-production counterpart was in the size of the back seat. Ferry Porsche was not interested in-designing something that was a large for cedar family car and he felt that this was what the 1959-Porsche 754 T7 would be. The eventual compromise that leads to the production of the 911 was a-reduction in the size of the back seat that made the car shorter and lighter.

The 1959 Porsche 754 T7 was actually a two-door car, just as the 911 has always been. The difference between the two is most noticeable-when you look at them from the side and the 754 basically looks to most people like an elongated-911. The truth of the matter is that a 911 is actually more of a shortened 754.

In order to see the 1959 Porsche 754 T7, a trip to the Porsche museum is-recommended. They have one in a green color that has been well photographed but is also worth-a look in person. On top of this historically significant automobile, there are a number of-other offerings from Porsche that you can view there that will inspire and amaze. It is just-one example of an incredible design from a car maker that has enjoyed a significant amount of the-acclaim in sports car history.
